Investing in Human Capital Development: A Key to Gainful Employment, Poverty Reduction, and Somalia’s Economic Transformation

The 5th Somali Entrepreneurship Summit (SES2025), held on July 29, 2025, at Jazeera Palace Hotel in Mogadishu, brought together over 320 stakeholders including government officials, private sector leaders, youth, women entrepreneurs, diaspora, and displaced communities.

Organized by MAAN-DHIS Youth Organization in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, the summit focused on the theme “Investing in Human Capital Development: A Key to Employment, Poverty Reduction, and Economic Transformation”.

Key highlights included:

  • Growth of digital enterprises from 3,000 in 2023 to 92,000 in 2025.
  • Financial institutions pledging more access to credit for youth and women-led SMEs.
  • Launch of initiatives like green enterprise incubators, plastic recycling, solar-powered cold storage, and women-led rooftop farming.
  • Strong involvement of the Somali diaspora in startup incubation and mentorship.

The summit concluded with 11 strategic recommendations, including establishing a National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Fund, scaling climate-smart enterprises, expanding financial inclusion, and strengthening education and vocational training.

SES2025 proved to be more than just a conference — it became a platform for transformative change, showing that Somalia’s future prosperity depends on youth empowerment, diaspora engagement, and sustainable innovation.
